New mystery thriller from Netflix immures Matthias Schweighofer the

Matthias Schweighöfer is back in front of the camera for Netflix. The actor is now one of the regular German faces you can find on the streaming service, thanks in part to the international Netflix films Army of the Dead, Army of Thieves and Heart of Stone. Next he will make another German film whose story has touches of mystery and thriller.

This is known about the new Netflix film with Matthias Schweighöfer

On Wednesday, Netflix presented upcoming projects in Berlin and one of them was Brick (that’s the working title; not to be confused with Rian Johnson’s Brick). The feature film is scheduled to be released in 2025. The focus is on a Hamburg couple (Matthias Schweighöfer and Ruby O. Fee) who one day find themselves Prisoners in their own home finds again. Because overnight a wall appears that blocks the way out. The official synopsis continues:

Together with various neighbors from their house who have suffered the same mysterious fate, they desperately search for a way out of the trap. What’s with the mysterious wall? The solution to this mystery becomes the key to their salvation – but also an even greater danger.

The story sounds like a high concept thriller à la 10 Cloverfield Lane. But we don’t yet know how deep the film ventures into mystery territory. In addition to Schweighöfer and Fee, Frederick Lau (One for the Road), Salber Lee Williams (The Queen’s Gambit) and Murathan Muslu (Skylines) also star.

Philip Koch (Tribes of Europa), who was most recently involved in the screenplay of the Netflix action film 60 Minutes, is responsible for the script and direction. A concrete start date in 2025 does not exist yet.
