On Steam, the graphically enhanced version of the complex cult hit “Dwarf Fortress” enjoys continued popularity among connoisseurs. But one mode that the game has in the ASCII version is still missing: Adventure Mode. It should be ready in April 2024. It sounds like a feast for roleplayers looking for something completely different.

Which mode is missing? In the ASCII version, Dwarf Fortress has a special mode, “Adventure Mode”, where you control a dwarf or a group directly and experience personal adventures in the fantasy world, instead of managing the fortress from above like a drunken dwarf god to look at the dwarves – and how they go crazy because they can’t find space to craft, but they absolutely have to make something.
Dwarf Fortress aficionados see Adventure Mode as a brilliant way to bring the world of Dwarf Fortress to life.
The developers themselves describe their work on the mode as a “completely unique, raw experience that can be fascinating and frustrating.”

What is the problem? The mode was missing from the release because you have to graphically animate countless animations and that hasn’t worked so far in terms of time.
In a blog post, the brothers have now announced that they will submit the mode in April if everything goes well.
Dwarf Fortress currently has 95% positive reviews on Steam and costs €29.
