A campaign for a new fantasy MMORPG has started on Kickstarter: Scars of Honor. The free2play MMORPG will offer 10 classes and will be released in 2026. Scars of Honor wants to bring back the golden age of online role-playing games and is clearly based on WoW. At first it all sounds as if it should trigger skepticism. But the MMORPG surprises with expertise: MMORPG expert Josh Strife Hayes was asked for advice.
What kind of game is this?
What do you want on Kickstarter? On Kickstarter they are looking for the somewhat paltry sum of $200,000 for an MMORPG. A donation of $24 will get you an account for the game. But you can also spend $1,900 to get numerous gimmicks and appear in the game as your own monument.
Vibe of the game is: MMORPGs used to be great and are now crap
What is the message of the MMORPG?: The message is very clear: “MMORPGs used to be great and are now crap.” They specially invite a YouTuber, Mrs. STIX from MMOBYTE, who makes it clear: This is not nostalgia, but simply a fact. She never played the old MMORPGs back then, so she didn’t have a romanticized view, but rather a clear view: MMORPGs used to be great and today they just don’t work that way anymore.
But the developers are playing the nostalgic tune: In the past, you would have met up with friends and played all night long.
The mechanics of Scars Honor should therefore bring back the “old values”; you should play together with the community and not alone.
We want to bring back this experience from before in an improved and modernized way.
The classes and races of Scars of Honor:
Why should you be skeptical? The pure facts speak against this MMORPG: A new studio, Kickstarter, Mobile, looks like “WoW ordered on Wish” – these are actually all signs that you should be skeptical as an MMORPG player.
The release date of the first quarter of 2026 also sounds as if it will definitely be postponed a few times.
MMORPG expert Josh Strife Hayes appears in the video
Why should you be confident? The developers started a campaign and brought in YouTubers to give them feedback. Including MMOBYTE, Callum Upton, but also Josh Strife Hayes – and that’s something special.
The YouTuber Hayes is considered an incorruptible luminary – simply because he is British and speaks with this slightly snobbish accent. Hayes seems to see potential in Scars of Honor (via YouTube).
He got to know the team, looked at the ideas and it all looked really good, says the distinguished Brit. He explains to the developers what is particularly important for an MMORPG, such as a stable server structure or good controls – WASD is important and it has to feel good to jump.
Why is the MMORPG interesting? Don’t recommend a Kickstarter pledge just because Josh Strife Hayes stopped by for a coffee and a video. But the fact that the MMORPG luminary is so attached to the game is unusual.
In any case, this shows that the developers can look into the hearts of MMORPG players. The whole vibe of the game, “like back when you really loved WoW” could also work.
That’s exactly the vibe that WildStar broadcast a good 10 years ago and we can painfully remember how that ended.
Smart MMORPG expert on YouTube.
However, it should also be borne in mind: Not only WoW has changed since 2005, the players from back then have also gotten older. Back then, they could still gamble the night away with friends. If you do that today, you’ll probably get in trouble with your boss or your wife – or both.
