What kind of game is this? Palia is a new MMORPG that takes games like Animal Crossing as a model. Even in the trailers, the game advertises that it wants to give you a “cozy life”.
The core elements of the game consist of activities that are usually considered sideline activities in MMORPGs. This includes quests such as growing various foods, forging tools, maintaining the house, fishing, logging, and cooking.
At the beginning of August, the MMO will first enter a closed and then an open beta. The gameplay progress is carried over into the game.

How can I join the beta? According to the website, the first step is to set up an account for Palia. You can then also download the game as soon as it is available (via palia.com). If you are invited to the closed beta, you will receive an email.
When is the beta running? The closed beta servers will open on August 2nd at 7 p.m. to all players who have received an invite to Palia after registering. The open beta starts on August 10th at 7 p.m. and anyone who has registered can participate.
The developers point out that errors can of course still occur in the beta. They also encourage players to bring their friends to Palia. There is a “Refer-A-Friend-Program” for that.
What is this program? Referring friends to Palia will earn you additional in-game rewards. From now on you can refer 5 friends and get 5 goodies. “As soon as your referred friend creates an account, you will receive your reward directly in your in-game mailbox!” (via palia.com).

How do I refer friends? After registering for Palia, you can invite friends via a link under the “Refer a friend” menu item on your account page. The friends who create an account through this will receive a fruit basket as a decorative item for the game.

Previously earned progress was cleared after each playtest. According to the developer, this is different now: from the closed beta, the progress will be carried over into the later game. With this they want to motivate the players to take a lot of time in Palia to live out their imagination without losing anything.
Before the beta, on July 25th, there will be a final stress test for Palia. However, only players who have previously participated or who have registered for a previous stress test can take part in this.
