New MMORPG comes to Steam, gets game masters who reinvent the game every day

Eternal Tombs – formerly War of Dragnorox – is a new indie MMORPG with an interesting idea. A system was introduced with which game masters can easily influence the feel of the game at any time. This system was presented in more detail in a video.

How does it work with the game masters? Basically, Eternal Tombs wants to be an old school sandbox MMORPG with a clear focus on PvE. In addition to 30 areas and 19 different raids at the start, it particularly wants to score points with the special GM system.

  • There are hundreds of trigger points in the game world where random events can happen. These events are reprogrammed by the game masters every day and can also be created spontaneously, for example when a large community gathers in one place.
  • Bosses, raids, waves of mobs and special siege events could be seen in the video, but also lore elements, NPCs, special quests or hidden treasures. The terrain itself can also be changed, for example by blocking or removing them. In the video, for example, a stone was removed, which revealed a trap door to a dungeon.
  • If players then approach the trigger point, the respective effect is triggered.
  • Every server, but also every single day, should play differently.
  • There are some pre-build events that the game masters can activate automatically and on multiple servers at the same time, while newly created components first have to be released by the developers themselves.

Eternal Tombs wanted to be more modern, but not everything is going well yet

What else do we know about the MMORPG? Eternal Tombs focuses on physical damage rather than magic. You can choose from 6 different classes: Warrior, Ranger, Bombardier, Manipulator, Chloromancer and Bonestitcher.

The battles were originally supposed to use classic tab targeting, but the switch to an action battle system was recently announced. While it looks more dynamic, it doesn’t look nearly as fluid as Black Desert or New World. However, there are a few cool elements, such as the screen going black when enemies blind you.

A lot of MMORPG revolves around the hunt for the perfect equipment. This should make you up to five times as strong as other players at the same level.

Overall, the game is supposed to be rather difficult, so you have to get together in groups. However, solo play has not been ruled out.

How is the shop doing? Eternal Tombs completely does without a shop, box purchases or crowdfunding packages. You just need to have the subscription of 9.99 euros active to be able to enter the game world.

It is developed in Unreal Engine 5 and uses a very minimalist UI. For example, you won’t see any damage numbers and there won’t be a minimap either.

What about beta events and release? You can already register for a beta on the official website. However, it is not known exactly when this will start. The third quarter of 2023 was originally planned, but the date was postponed indefinitely – also because of the changes to the combat system.

What do you think of Eternal Tombs? Do the elements and gameplay appeal to you?

By the way, Chrono Odyssey presented its combat system much better in the trailer: A new MMORPG makes my dreams come true – shows the best combat system ever in the trailer.
