New live-action Pokémon series takes you back to childhood with the first trailer

A new live-action Pokémon series is starting in Japan this month. The first trailer now shows that the series will be completely different than all the live-action adaptations that have existed for the franchise so far. Above all, the trailer creates a really nostalgic feeling.

What awaits you: To get this straight: you don’t need to expect an appearance of the pocket monsters in animated form, as in other live-action adaptations, in this new series.

The PokéTsume series, or Pocket Filled with Adventure in English, more or less manages without the little creatures. Instead, the series shows how a game has thrilled and brought people together for generations.

It tells the story of a young woman who moves to Tokyo and is given a Game Boy along with Pokémon Red by her mother. This makes her fall in love with the world of Pokémon.

The series follows them in their new lives and through the new challenges that moving brings with it and how the game affects them. From what we know, the series probably wants to show how the Pokémon franchise can bring people together and create new friendships.

What the trailer shows: Even though the trailer surprises with the fact that there really isn’t an animated little monster running through the screen, many players probably get a really nostalgic feeling.

Because you can see many excerpts from the old Pokémon game that immediately take you back to your childhood. Everything is accompanied by the appropriate old music and some scenes in which everyone can probably find themselves in some way.

For example, we see the young woman blowing into the cartridge and the Game Boy, which I’m sure everyone did. In another scene, she sits across from another player and her two Gameboys are connected via cable. Just the old way of playing in local co-op.

Regardless of whether you find such an approach to a live-action Pokémon series interesting or not, little hints like this definitely make the trailer fun to watch. You can hardly help but be a little happy with the young woman.

Where do you find the series? The series starts on October 19, 2023 on TV Tokyo. It is not yet known whether other countries will also be able to enjoy the release.

What do you think of the new series? Would you watch PokéTsume if it was released here in Germany or is it enough for you to have seen the trailer? Feel free to tell us your opinion.
