Mats Löfving is being investigated again after the scandal with Linda Staaf.

The police chief is said to have had a relationship with a union representative who sat on the same committee – and now he is suspected of being a jerk, writes Police newspaper.

The national police chief raised the alarm himself after a telephone conversation with Löfving.

Former Noa head Mats Löfving is being investigated for gross misconduct after hiring Linda Staaf as the new head of intelligence – despite her lack of police experience.

It has previously been discovered that Löfving and Staaf had a secret relationship for six years, which raised suspicions of cheating. He is also being investigated for misconduct after assigning her a service weapon. Löfving himself denies any crime.

The internal investigation is now complete and will be presented next Wednesday, reports, Swedish daily newspaper.

Changed about the relationship

National Police Chief Anders Thornberg has stated that Löfving provided conflicting information about the relationship. During a telephone conversation at the end of last year, Löfving is said to have said that the relationship began in 2016, when the assignment in the committee was still ongoing. Something that made Thornberg choose to report Löfving for good.

Löfving has since corrected himself and stated that it began in 2018, when he left the committee.

The police authority must now make a decision on whether the investigation should be continued. The State’s responsibility committee will decide on any disciplinary measures.
