New information released for Diablo 4

Finally, new information has started to come for Diablo 4, which we have not heard from for a long time and is highly anticipated.

Just like the Diablo Immortal game that Blizzard will release to mobile platforms, we haven’t heard from Diablo 4 for a long time. This is probably due to some scandals and the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft. The company, which entered the transition process, finally ended this long wait and shared some innovations about Diablo 4 with the players. The official statement of the company and the information about the game are as follows;

New information released for Diablo 4

We are excited to announce the release of the Diablo IV development process update for the first quarter of 2022. Diablo IV, the darkest and most well-grounded game in the series, seeks to achieve believability rather than realism in its environments. To achieve this, the team built two key pillars to separate concepts, locations and implementation. These are “former masters” and “return to darkness”. The environment was created using these columns to have a different visual style with the controlled use of details and color palettes. Weather and physically-based lighting also played a large part in creating the dangerous Sanctuary world and providing a more tangible feel to the atmosphere.

For the first time in the series, Diablo IV comes with a shared open world containing 5 fascinating regions to explore. From the Dry Steppe to the Scosglen coast to glacier ridges, each region has been carefully crafted by the Diablo Art & Design teams. Many of these areas feature dynamic objects that bring a sense of vitality to the structures and terrain. The team pushed themselves to create a realistic and varied element of destruction, placing interactable and destructible objects in most environments.

Diablo IV also offers over 150 randomly generated dungeons that benefit from combining manual and procedural creation. To make dungeon creation effective and flexible, the team set out to create a variety of tile sets that could be cleverly reused with different objects, interaction elements and lighting. To give the tilesets a more natural feel, new transitions have been created to smooth the transition between two different tile sets in the same dungeon.

In this update, Artistic Director Chris Ryder, Associate Artistic Director Brian Fletcher, Associate Lighting Director Ben Hutchings, Principal Outdoors Artist Matt McDaid, and Principal Objects and Interactions Artist Chaz Head discuss how they approach the different regions in Diablo IV and create immersive environmental art. They describe how they put them together.

We hope you enjoyed the first Diablo IV development update of 2022. We’re excited to share more with all the players this year.

See you at Sanctuary!
