Here is the message that makes the SHL clubs – and perhaps above all HV71 – dream.
Lawrence Pilut has two straight seasons in the KHL behind him.
But there will not be any more.
Lawrence Pilut dropped points in the SHL before deciding to try out for games in North America. During the 2017/2018 season, he scored a total of 38 points in 52 games for HV71, which is not directly modest as a fullback.
Breaks the contract
In North America, however, Pilut did not get the development he had hoped for, and after just two seasons with the Buffalo Sabers, where there were a total of 36 games, he left for the KHL, where he played for Traktor Chelyabinsk for the past two years.
He also had a contract over the coming season, but now it is clear that there will be no continuation. The Russian site Championat writes that he will break the contract, and the club’s sports director says that they are now working to resolve the legal pieces. This means that Pilut is free to sign for any club.
Free to choose club
According to Hockeypuls, which refers to JP, however, Pilut is keen on a move back to the NHL and the Buffalo Sabers, who still own the rights to him. But if it did not happen, HV would happily pick up the hill, which in that case would belong to one of SHL’s best on paper.
But more SHL clubs are chasing offensive backs. Färjestad previously chased Kodie Curran, who, however, now seems to be relevant for Frölunda instead. Should Frölunda bet on Curran, Pilut would certainly be of great interest, if there are no games in the NHL.
