Now he takes a seat next to icons like Nicklas Lidström and Tony Rickardsson.
– It feels really big, says municipal councilor Lars Isacsson.

Armand Duplantis is the world’s hottest athlete and without a doubt one of Sweden’s greatest athletes. In recent years, the pole vaulter has won pretty much every competition he competed in, and his track record is actually unreal compared to his age.

Takes place next to the legends

Duplantis has broken several world records – the most recent just a few months ago – and in addition he won Olympic gold last summer, also in undramatic and superior style. It is therefore not very strange that he is widely praised in Avesta.

Duplanti’s grandfather co-founded the athletics association in the city, and his mother has competed for the club. Duplantis has also competed for Avesta, and there is already a sign in the city, which is exactly 6 meters and 20 centimeters high – that is, his world record height. But now he is being hailed again in the city.

“Feels really big”

Even when he broke his first world record, it was clear that he would get an Avesta record, which signals that he is in the municipality’s “Walk of Fame”. There are already legendary Swedish sports names like Nicklas Lidström and Tony Rickardsson.

– We have long had contact with Armand Duplantis, to find a time when he could go home to Avesta for this assignment. Now we have finally found the date, says municipal councilor Lars Isacsson in a press release.

And the last of July, the moment will be immortalized, when he thus gets his own record laid down in the municipality.

– In Avesta, we want to highlight and pay tribute to prominent Avesta residents and Avesta ambassadors. That now, after two years of pandemic, to finally be able to do it with one of the world’s greatest athletes Armand Duplantis feels really big, says Isacsson.
