As a football player, Van Dinteren, originally from SDO from Bussum, played for several years in the youth of FC Utrecht. In 1997 he left, together with teammate Joost Broerse, from Jong FC Utrecht to FC Groningen. He then played successively for RKC Waalwijk, Helmond Sport, FC Zwolle, Noordwijk, FC Breukelen and the American Dayton Dutch Lions FC.
