Every so often, Google makes changes to Android. Most of the time, it’s about new functions that make the phones better.
But it’s not as common for Google to come up with a new app. Recently, however, it became clear that Google is rolling out one, reports Android Authority.

New Android app
The app, named Android System Key Verifier, is created with the aim of preventing fraud.
More specifically, it lets you verify that the person you’re writing with is who they say they are. The idea is that it should reduce the risk of you being scammed by hijacked accounts.
Namely, it is not uncommon for fraudsters to hijack social media accounts and use them to try to cheat people out of money.
This is especially common on Facebook, somewhat News24 previously written about.

According to information obtained by Android Authority, Android System Key Verifier has two main functions:
When you add a new contact, you can both scan each other’s QR codes to verify that you’re chatting with the right person.
If you suspect the person you’re talking to has changed devices or isn’t the same person, you can ask them to verify the keys again.

Then the app comes to Android
The app will work on mobiles that have version Android 10 or later.
Google has previously said that a feature that works similarly to Android System Key Verifier will launch next year. But the company hasn’t mentioned anything about the app itself or when it will come to all Android devices.
However, according to Android Authority, some users have already received the app, so it shouldn’t be too long before it appears on your device.
