New Geralt from The Witcher multiverse? 4 Ways Henry Cavill Says Goodbye

A dark cloud is hanging over the third season of Netflix’s fantasy saga The Witcher, which starts in June 2023. There is panic and doom and gloom among numerous fans. It will be the last one starring Henry Cavill. Liam Hemsworth will play Geralt of Rivia in future seasons.

In Season 3, the series now faces its toughest test. It needs to function as a farewell to Cavil’s The Witcher era while also giving fans a reason to look forward to more adventures with a completely different Geralt.

The biggest question for many is: How is the recast of Geralt of Rivia supposed to work in the series? We came up with four ways The Witcher could make the move from Henry Cavil to Liam Hemsworth make sense (or not at all).

1. Geralt gets beat up until he doesn’t look like Henry Cavill anymore

Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel The time of contempt forms the template for the third season of The Witcher. The bookstore not only reveals what Henry Cavill’s Witcher farewell might look like, it also offers an interesting way to explain Geralt’s physical transformation.

2. Geralt dies and is revived in a new body

Since the series has already made some drastic changes compared to the original book, it cannot be ruled out that the authors will find an unexpected way to explain the change of cast within the storyline.

For the ultimate cliffhanger, Geralt’s defeat could be even more drastic: Season 3 has him dying at the end. In future season 4 or even a possible post-credits scene, the witcher could then be surprisingly resurrected – albeit in a new body.

For example, a revival spell from Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) could bring about Geralt’s resurrection. The price that strong magic exacts? The body of a living being who (involuntarily?) has to sacrifice himself. After that, Geralt is no longer himself. Literally.

3. The Witcher opens the multiverse after Season 3

There are numerous in the series world of The Witcher Universes, realities, dimensions and spheres. The fact that humans, elves and other creatures live on the continent is even due to a collision of several worlds. It is precisely this multiverse that could become the creative solution for Geralt’s new appearance.

For example, the events of season 3 could take Ciri (Freya Allan) to an alternate reality where her witcher protector looks slightly different. Another multiverse possibility: Geralt dies. After his death, the grieving Ciri pulls one alternate version of him from another dimension.

4. The move from Henry Cavill to Liam Hemsworth is not discussed at all

There are some creative ways to ease The Witcher’s transition from the Cavill era to the Hemsworth era. However, fans should prepare emotionally for the Netflix series to end the most unspectacular variant votes and the reshuffle is not discussed at all.

It is not uncommon for series characters to be recast over time for a variety of reasons. Series such as Game of Thrones and Spartacus or film series such as Harry Potter and the MCU, for example, have never explained their change of actors within the plot and carried on as if nothing had happened.
