My Friendly Neighborhood has been available on Steam for a few days. There is actually a horror game behind the title, but the scary factor does not come from the dismembering of corpses and decapitation. But through murderous killer dolls.
What is the story behind My Friendly Neighborhood? A show called “My Friendly Neighborhood” was a Saturday morning puppet show, but viewers lost interest over time. One day, the antenna of a film studio suddenly broadcasts old episodes from the show that had been canceled a long time ago.
The technician Gordon has to check things out and enters the film studio, which should actually be deserted. His goal is to fix the antenna on the roof. But the puppets don’t seem happy that their show has been canceled and lurk in the film studio.
So we have to fight our way through the killer dolls to get to the roof.
The dolls are the highlight of the game: they look like they just escaped from Sesame Street. There are sock puppets or puppets that look like Ernie & Bert. In combination with their murderous lust, a unique gaming experience is created.

But the main character doesn’t just accept the puppet terror, but knows how to defend himself skillfully. How do you fight puppets from a children’s show? With the alphabet, of course!
For example, we can use the stenographer. This is a unique weapon with which we can shoot the ABC. In this way we keep the annoying dolls at bay.
In the film studio we can also find relics of the puppet show. There is an old set from the TV show on site, as well as halls decorated with crayons and cardboard. If the puppets weren’t breathing down our necks, we could marvel at the varied backdrops in peace.
Like other survival horror classics, My Friendly Neighborhood is meant to involve some puzzles. The mechanics don’t look too complex. Easier puzzles were probably chosen for the game, since we are under stress thanks to the puppets and can only think a few clear thoughts.
