The MMORPG Ragnarok Begins recently completed a closed beta and is coming to Steam soon. It tells the backstory of the popular anime MMORPG Ragnarok Online that was released in 2004.

Ragnarok Begins is a new Free2Play MMORPG from the developer Gravity. It is set in the universe of the popular anime MMORPG Ragnarok Online, which the developers were also responsible for.

However, the original game and its successor Ragnarok 2 were discontinued in Europe in 2018 for data protection reasons. Since then, many different titles in the Ragnarok universe have appeared, but most of them can only be played on mobile devices. Ragnarok Begins, on the other hand, is also playable on PC.

The MMORPG tells how it all began

What is Ragnarok Begins? It is a side scroller MMORPG. In it you move left and right, like in the MMORPG MapleStory.

You choose one of 4 basic classes, which you then develop further. There are 12 different classes in total:

  • Swordman: Warrior, Defender
  • Archer: Hunter, Ranger
  • Mage: Elementalist, Summoner
  • Acolyte: Saint, Inquisitor
  • The story tells the prehistory of the universe and takes place 100 years before Ragnarok Online. The content is about the conflict between the kingdom of Rune Midgard and the church of Arunafelz.

Who is it worth it for? Ragnarok Begins is primarily aimed at fans of the Ragnarok universe who still miss the original to this day. If you didn’t feel like playing Ragnarok’s mobile games, you should take a look at Ragnarok Begins.

In addition, the MMORPG is worthwhile for all anime fans who value cute but not too modern graphics. You should also like side scrollers in order to find your way around Ragnarok Begins.

When is the game out? There is currently no exact date. It’s already out in Korea and we know for sure that it’s coming to the west too. A closed beta in North America recently concluded and pre-registration via email was opened. So it can’t be far. The Ragnarok Begins Steam page currently says “Coming Soon”.
