New figures show: Many Swedes have saved electricity this autumn

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Swedish households have already cut back considerably on electricity consumption, figures from Ellevio show. Among their 900,000 private customers, electricity consumption has fallen sharply for three months in a row.

When the company compares with the average for the same month three years ago, they see that consumption in September decreased by 12 percent. In October, usage fell by 21.5 percent and in November by 19 percent.

Jesper Liveröd, press manager at the electricity network company, calls the figures remarkable. According to him, they show that customers have pulled the plug after all the calls to skimp on electricity.

– The fact that people have reduced their electricity use in such a short time is likely a consequence of the summer’s black headlines about skyrocketing electricity prices. They have clearly contributed to a strong concern, he says.

The energy company Eon also sees that households have reduced electricity use by approximately 15 percent in both October and November compared to last year.
