Five teenage boys got out of a SiS home in Fagersta, Västmanland on Sunday night by threatening staff. Four of them have been recovered.

– It is about individuals aged 15-17 who during the early hours of the night allegedly threatened staff and threatened to take keys, says Mattias Rutergård, press spokesperson at the police.

Jenny Brännström, deputy head of department at the SiS home, says that the staff routinely gave up their keys when one of the young people threatened them.

– They were department keys. They also took a couple of car keys with them but did not manage to take any car with them.

Police were later able to capture four of the five runaway teenagers. According to the head of the SiS home, the teenager who is still at large has been convicted of criminal acts, but does not pose a danger to the public.

No person shall be physically harmed.

– Under the circumstances, the staff are doing well, says Brännström.

Several escapes have taken place from the home in the past year. In July, three young people escaped and two weeks earlier, a woman from the staff was taken hostage and two young people got out. At the end of May, the police were called to the home after several young people barricaded themselves in a space at the facility.

TT: How could this happen again?

– So far, it is so early in the investigation that we do not know what has happened. We need to do an investigation and see where it has broken, says Jenny Brännström.
