Winter temperatures are back this week. Weather forecasts highlight very diverse phenomena depending on the French regions.
Caught between an anticyclone coming from the British Isles and depressions evolving in the Mediterranean, France is seeing its temperatures drop radically this week. The person responsible? The kiss, this dry and cold wind, straight from the North-East.
Like this weekend, this start of the week is marked by gray weather, although the humidity level is down in the majority of the territory. In the Pyrenees, however, the mistral and tramontane do not weaken and result in snowfall. This Monday, four departments in the South-West were placed on orange alert for snow and ice by Météo-France. Among them are the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, the Hautes-Pyrénées, the Haute-Garonne and the Ariège.
Tuesday, the weather is drier, despite the cold still present. Light drizzle, or even flakes of no aggravating nature are to be expected depending on The Weather Channel. “In the Pyrenees, the risk of avalanche is marked, even strong on certain massifs due to the large quantities of snow accumulated,” she indicates. Near the Mediterranean, the population is taking advantage of the few sunny spells while in Corsica the umbrellas are out.
This Wednesday marks a return to calm despite clouds still present. Clearing periods are even expected, particularly in the south-east where sunny weather is forecast. “But, from Corsica to Languedoc-Roussillon, the clouds will become more invasive as the hours go by, particularly in the Pyrénées-Orientales where it could snow at fairly low altitude,” reports The Weather Channel.
On the other hand, Thursday morning marks the return of frost to the eastern plains and the center of the country. The air is drier, allowing some clearing to appear. On the other hand, on the Mediterranean side, weather variations are still visible as indicated by the showers forecast for the day.
This Friday, the weather continues to deteriorate in the south with temporary heavy rain near the Mediterranean. According to the forecast, a few flakes could mix with the showers. Conversely, in the north, the weather remains dry due to the persistence of high pressure over the British Isles. Watch out for daybreak and its sometimes severe frosts.
