The police’s investigation into the mess within the top police management is brought forward, announced Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M). The assignment must now be reported at the end of February instead of at the end of April. National Police Chief Anders Thornberg is said to have given Strömmer the message on Monday morning. – This morning I had a meeting with the national police chief. We agree that it is unfortunate for several reasons if this investigation drags on unnecessarily, says Gunnar Strömmer at a press conference. Löfving was reported to the police The upheaval in the police leadership includes police reports against Stockholm’s regional police chief Mats Löfving and allegations of wrongdoing in connection with the appointment of Linda Staaf as head of intelligence at the National Operative Department (Noa). At the time, Löfving was Noa’s boss and the one who decided to hire Staaf. The police reports concern suspected crimes that Löfving allegedly committed against Staaf. None of them led to the initiation of a preliminary investigation. In parallel with the police’s internal investigation, the Special Prosecutor’s Chamber has also started a preliminary investigation into gross misconduct regarding the appointment of Staaf as head of intelligence in 2015.
