New electric buses are delayed in Växjö – forced to rent old contractor’s oldest buses

It is a complicated bus story that has developed after Bergkvarabuss handed over public transport to Connect bus in Kronoberg county in December.

– When it’s at its worst, we’ve had to hire the tourist companies’ buses, and then there’s a lack of drivers, says Carina Bengtsson (C), chairman of the traffic committee in Region Kronoberg.

Rent the predecessor’s old buses

Some of the buses that run in Växjö’s city traffic today are Bergkvarabus’s old buses that the new contractor, Connect bus, rents. But only the slightly older models were available for rent, the new ones were needed in Kalmar where they were received with open arms as the first of their kind in city traffic.

– It is true that these buses, which are called accordion buses, were needed for our mission in Kalmar, explains communications manager Simon Sandberg at Bergkvarabuss.

In the clip, the chairman of the traffic committee, Carina Bengtsson, talks about what it is that causes the buses in Växjö’s city traffic to fail.
