Bellatores is a new MMORPG that will only be released for PC and Steam. Although the developer is based in Korea, western players in particular should be addressed. Now new details, a website in English and new screenshots have been shared.
What kind of game is this? Bellatores was originally announced as Project N1 in 2020. It is supposed to be a fantasy MMORPG that focuses on a medieval world. This should be particularly realistic, with a mix of PvE, PvP and survival:
You create a character from different races. The characters are all kept in a more western style and there should be no sexualization and gender lock. However, the game does without fixed classes and levels. Your equipment determines your play style, although mages with plate armor should also be possible. You also level your skills directly and not your character. The combat system relies on tab targeting and collisions. So you should be able to block other attackers in their path with a formation of players. You should also be able to hide behind objects to avoid attacks.Within the story you should be able to make decisions that affect the course of the game. It’s all about the mad King Henry having died and now 5 other families are vying for the throne. You join one of the 5 factions and then have constantly active PvP against the other 4 in the open world. There will also be huge realm vs realm battles.Dungeons and raids only exist in the open world, so other factions can attack you in these boss fights. The MMORPG is developed in the Unreal Engine 5 and the developers themselves are proud of their strong graphics. There is currently no Bellatores gameplay, but some screenshots have been released which we have included for you here:
Bellatores also gets a lot of financial support from Epic Games
Where does the high budget come from? Bellatores has received financial injections of over 44 million euros through various channels. This includes funds from investors of around 22.3 million euros in 2022 (via GameAbout) and funding from Epic Games (Fortnite) of around 5 to 15 million euros (via mk.co.kr). In addition to the 44 million euros, the equity comes from revenues from various mobile MMORPGs.
The investments involved are large sums that many Western studios trying their hand at new MMORPGs can only dream of:
Crowfall, for example, managed to manage a budget of 30 million euros after more than 7 years with a crowdfunding campaign and alpha and beta packages, with 5 million being taken from license income and around 4.5 million from crowdfunding, according to the developers.Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen, on the other hand, seems to be constantly pushing the limits. After a first Kickstarter campaign did not even reach the 700,000 euros by Backer, there is said to have been a seven-figure sum later from a private investor. In addition, there are packages on the website that, according to the developers, will have been bought by over 8,000 people by 2021 (via Pantheon).Throne and Liberty, the new MMORPG from NCSoft, is said to have cost over 75 million euros to develop. One of the most expensive MMORPGs ever was SWTOR. That ate up over $200 million from release to 2019, but also raked in over $1 billion. When is the game out? Bellatores is scheduled for release in the second half of 2024. The developers have not yet confirmed whether the release will take place directly globally or only in the home country of Korea.
