New dog park opens in Brantford this week

A dog park, specifically for large breed dogs, will open Wednesday at 282 Stanley St.

The park is located on the south side of the former Arrowdale golf course property along Elgin Street.

The area was cleared during archaeological investigations conducted last year, said a public notice issued by the city on Monday.

A “small dog” park will open in the spring when ground conditions in the area are suitable.

Last October, the city confirmed the final sale of a portion of the golf course. Thirty-two acres of the 49-acre property were sold to Elite MC Arrowdale Holdings Inc. for $14 million.

Proceeds from the sale have been allotted to affordable housing within the city and tax revenue generated from the redevelopment of the Arrowdale property will be transferred annually into a reserve fund dedicated to affordable housing initiatives.

In 2019, city council directed that 17 acres of the lands be retained for a community park The dog parks are included in that parcel of land.
