Since 2006, Kaoural Renouveau has been carrying out street cleaning and unemployment prevention activities. The association also displays a political positioning: it elected municipal councilors in Bamako, got involved in 2020 within the M5-RFP during the demonstrations against the late President IBK and supported the beginnings of the transition.

But since then, Kaoural has moved to the side of the opposition, becoming a member of the February 20 Appeal or the Synergy of Action, platforms bringing together political parties and civil society organizations which demand the organization of elections.

Its president, Aladji Oumar Abdou Touré, multiplies the videos on social networks. The transitional authorities accuse him of comments aimed at “ discredit » and « sow disturbances to public order “. But according to him, this is not the root of the problem. “

The Kaoural Renouveau association has offices in Senegal, Ivory Coast, Togo and France. The transitional authorities also justify its dissolution by the status “ international » of the association, which would not be provided for by law.

Critical personalities imprisoned

Kaoural Renouveau plans to challenge this dissolution in court, without having any illusions about the outcome of the procedure.

This is not the first association to suffer this fate. Two months ago, the Observatory for Elections and Good Governance in Mali was dissolved. Its president had notably pointed out the irregularities in the organization of the constitutional referendum and considered that it was possible to quickly hold the presidential election to end the transition period, and for which no date has been set to date.

The opposition political party PSDA suffered the same fate, the Sadi party is targeted by similar legal proceedings. Ras Bath, Rose Vie Chere and other figures from civil society are behind bars for having also made virulent comments. Each time, the Malian political or judicial authorities invoke threats of unrest, destabilization or damage to the state’s credit.
