The USA was shaken by the news from New York City yesterday. 23 people were injured in an armed attack at a metro station in the city. New York police reported that 62-year-old Frank R. James is being sought as a “suspect” in relation to the incident.
EVIDENCE COMES WITH FINDINGS
In a statement, the New York police noted that the evidence obtained from the pickup truck used by James, who is stated to be a black American, overlapped with the findings at the crime scene.
Police did not make a clear statement as to whether this person was the person who carried out the attack or was connected to the attacker, stating that James was the suspect as the person who rented the van in question.
Continuing their search for James, who is stated to have registered addresses in Philadelphia and Wisconsin, the police emphasized that the investigation could reach a concrete point if the suspect is found.
NO LIFE IS DANGEROUS
On the other hand, while the number of injured, which was previously stated as 16, was updated to 23 in the last statement, it was stated that 10 of these people were injured by a gun and there was no life-threatening person.
WHAT HAPPENED?
It was reported that 16 people were injured, 10 of them with a firearm, in the attack that took place in a subway station in Brooklyn yesterday in New York.
The New York Police Department (NYPD), Fire Department (NYFD) and New York Governor Kathy Kochul stated in their press release about the attack that according to the initial findings, the incident was not a terrorist incident.
State officials announced that 16 people were injured, 10 of whom were due to firearms, in the incident that took place in a subway station in Brooklyn in the morning, that the injured were being treated in 2 hospitals closest to the region, and that some of them remained in serious condition.
NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell said they had no evidence to say the incident was a terrorist attack. Sewell informed that the suspect, who was wearing an orange construction vest and gas mask, was a black male and randomly opened fire on the passengers around and on the platform.
The New York Police Department, which shared the updated information later, stated that there was no active explosive device at the crime scene, but the investigation was continuing, and that the public should stay away from the scene for safety.
In his first assessment on the subject, US President Joe Biden said during his visit to Iowa, “We are grateful to the civilians and first responders who helped the passengers by not afraid of gunshots.” he said.
New York Mayor Eric Adams stated that the cameras at the scene were malfunctioning regarding the attack in Brooklyn.
