After leaving The Witcher, Henry Cavill has already set his sights on the next big fantasy project. Since mid-2021, it has been certain that he will take on the lead role in the Highlander reboot, which has been planned since 2008. After initial progress, it has now been announced when the first take of the blockbuster by John Wick mastermind Chad Stahelski.

As Collider exclusively reports, the start of filming of the fantasy remake for January 2025 Production is scheduled to begin in Scotland then. The director has previously said that he wants to combine classic historical and saga elements with supernatural details and the usual stunt action for his Highlander version.

It is certainly no coincidence that the upcoming Highlander film is often teased in early reports as John Wick with sisters. Fans of the Keanu Reeves series can definitely look forward to powerful choreography and tough fights.

Stahelski told Collider that his fantasy vision not just string together generic sword fights Instead, he wants to shed light on the mechanisms that go into handling the weapon.

In his opinion, the stunt work involving swords will be a particular challenge, as the action with them is very difficult to learn and requires a lot of preparation. For his Highlander reboot, Stahelski wants nothing less than a completely new, never before seen form of sword fighting develop and show.

When will the new Highlander movie be released in theaters?

An exact start date has not yet been set. If filming can begin as planned in January 2025, the Highlander reboot should probably not before 2026 in cinemas.
