In several places around Iran, demonstrations have been held in the past 24 hours – the most powerful in weeks. In Zahedan in the province of Sistan-Baluchistan, thousands of people are said to have chanted slogans critical of the regime, in connection with the Friday prayer.
The demonstrations mark the end of the mourning period after the killing of two men who were arrested in connection with the protests. Video from the city shows heavily equipped riot police patrolling the streets.
Since the death of Mahsa Jina Amini in September, hundreds of people have been killed, tens of thousands detained and several executed in connection with protests.
