New crowd record in the cup final

At the women’s Swedish level, Sweden is finding it difficult to keep up with the European trend, with increasingly well-filled stands and audience records replacing each other.

The exception is Hammarby, which in recent years has set a new standard.

National Day marked the next milestone, when 17,623 paying spectators watched the cup final against Häcken at the Tele2 arena. A few hundred traveling Häcken supporters also contributed to the record.

In advance, there were indications that upwards of 19,000 people would watch the final on site. In that case, not only would the record for a cup final on the women’s side have been broken (5,602 people watched Linköping–Rosengård in 2015). It had been the largest audience figure for a Swedish women’s match at club team level.

Now that record, which was set in the same arena, with the same home crowd, two years ago, remains. The Stockholm derby between Hammarby and AIK 2021 attracted 18,537 spectators.

The two matches at Tele2 arena also stand out among the top ratings. To find the third most visited match, you have to go back to 2008, when 9,413 spectators saw Linköping–Umeå in the women’s league.
