A statement came from the Iranian front regarding the Zangezur Corridor, which is about to cause a serious crisis between Iran and Russia. The Iranian front stated that the corridor is not in the interest of the countries in the region and that they will respond seriously to it.
“A FAKE PROJECT”
The crisis over the “Zangezur Corridor” between Iran and Russia, which connects Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan via Armenia, is growing. The head of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Ibrahim Azizi, made statements regarding the Zangezur Corridor, which has been on the agenda in the country in recent days. Azizi, who stated that the Tehran administration is against the Zangezur Corridor, said that the corridor is not in the interests of the countries in the region and that Iran will respond seriously to any steps taken and changes to the border. Azizi said, “Basically, the Zangezur Corridor is a fake project that involves other hands and aims to reduce Iran’s military and political power in the region. We warn those who are pursuing such a dream that the decisions they will make will have serious and costly consequences.”
“WE WILL RESPONSE SERIOUSLY”
Azizi, who emphasized that Iran will not allow any steps that will target its territorial integrity and sovereignty, gave the message that they do not want tension in the region but will not remain silent in the face of any attempt that may target Iran. Referring to the meetings of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azizi said, “During these meetings, we have declared to the countries in the region many times that the corridor issue is our red line. We have stated that we will respond seriously to any geopolitical change that may occur in our border regions. Our expectation from the Presidency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is that they resolve the developments in the Caucasus, which is also an important issue for the country’s national security, and the corridor issue with active diplomacy.”
THE CRISIS OF THE ZENGEZUR CORRIDOR BETWEEN IRAN AND RUSSIA
The statements from the Russian administration regarding the Zangezur corridor have caused reactions in the Tehran administration. Iran interprets the recent statements by Russian officials as Moscow supporting Azerbaijan for the Zangezur Corridor. Following the statement by Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova supporting the Zangezur corridor, the Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian Ambassador to Tehran, Alexei Dedov, and announced that the Tehran administration is against the Zangezur corridor.
