New Content of Mortal Kombat 1 Has Been Canceled

Warner Bros. Interactive and NetherRealm Studios have decided to cancel Kombat Pack 3 and a new story add-on planned for Mortal Kombat 1.

According to a recent rumor, Warner Bros. Interactive and NetherRealm Studios have decided to cancel Kombat Pack 3 and a new story add-on planned for Mortal Kombat 1. The failure of NetherRealm Studios’ latest addition, Khaos Reigns, to perform as expected in sales caused the game’s future content to be terminated.

Khaos Reigns and Kombat Pack 1 Contents Are Disappointing

This news comes from a reliable leaker who has previously shared accurate information, including Kombat Pack fighters. This confirmed source on the Mortal Kombat leaks subreddit responded to a post about the possibility of a Kombat Pack 3, stating that it wouldn’t happen.

Another comment confirmed that NetherRealm Studios was planning another story add-on alongside Kombat Pack 3, but those plans were shelved due to low sales. The leaker stated, “Kombat Pack 3 and a second story expansion were planned. All of them were canceled recently. There will be no more characters coming after Kombat Pack 2. One or two cameo characters may still be released as some work is being done on them, but I don’t know yet.” used.

Khaos Reigns continues the story of Mortal Kombat 1 and offers 4-5 hours of new content. With the add-on, six new fighters are added to the game: Ghost Face, Noob, Sektor, Cyrax, Conan and T-1000. This add-on follows Kombat Pack 1, which included Omni-Man, Quan-Chi, Peacemaker, Ermac, Homelander, and Takeda.

Mortal Kombat games often receive post-game support through DLC fighters. For Mortal Kombat X and XI, this meant new characters and guest fighters. Mortal Kombat XI was the first game in the series to feature a post-game story addition. Although Mortal Kombat 1 initially achieved strong sales figures, its success was marred by poor post-game support. Khaos Reigns, released a few months ago, failed to make a significant impact.

Mortal Kombat 1 is available for PS5, PC, Xbox Series S|X and Nintendo Switch. The game was developed by NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Published by Interactive.
