New co-op shooter looks like Destiny in Unreal Engine 5

The loot shooter The First Descendant announced the date for an open beta at gamescom 2023.

What kind of game is this?

  • The First Descendant is an upcoming loot shooter from Korean developer studio Nexon that will be released as a free-to-play title on Steam, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
  • The game is played in a sci-fi setting in which the players have to fight nasty extraterrestrial beings.
  • There are different classes, each with special abilities, 4-player co-op, as well as crossplay on all platforms.
  • The First Descendant uses Unreal Engine 5 and is played in third-person perspective.

    • What is The First Descendant about? In The First Descendant you slip into the role of the so-called “descendants”. These descendants (“descendants”) have special abilities.

    In an earlier trailer, we learn that humanity emerged as the loser from a fight against invaders from another world. These evil aliens are called Vulgus and they sacrificed or conducted experiments on humans.

    People fought to the death, but the invaders still managed to destroy everything. Eventually, people found a power in ancient ruins to launch a counterattack and finally resist.

    What are the similarities to Destiny? In general, the gameplay of the loot shooter is reminiscent of Destiny or other genre representatives such as Warframe or Outriders, despite the third person: you choose a class, equip yourself with sci-fi-like firearms and powerful skills and fight evil aliens in futuristic suits.

    Already in a trailer from 2022, many fans recognized a similarity and described The First Descendant as a baby of Destiny and Warframe.

    Beta start already in September

    When is the beta? The First Descendant crossplay open beta will start on September 19th, 2023 and run until September 25th, Nexon announced at gamescom ONL 2023 with a new trailer.

    How can you participate in the beta? If you want to participate in the beta, you can register on the game’s official website (via tfd.nexon.com). There you select your platform and enter your e-mail address.

    PC players will be redirected to The First Descendant’s Steam page to request beta access.

    MeinMMO author and Destiny expert Britta already took part in a beta for The First Descendant in October 2022 and summarized her impressions. Visually, the shooter also reminded her of Destiny, but when it came to gameplay, she thought primarily of Outriders:
