With Cassette Beasts, there is now a new game on Steam and consoles that is reminiscent of Pokémon. The special thing is that you are the monster.
What kind of game is this? Cassette Beasts is a new Pokémon-themed game that was released on April 26th for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Steam.
Unlike modern Pokémon games or the Pokémon MMO Temtem, however, Cassette Beasts does not rely on modern 3D graphics, but instead comes in a classic retro design.
You catch the various monsters in cassettes instead of balls and fight with them against other trainers.

What sets the gameplay apart? However, Cassette Beasts has come up with a special trick for the turn-based combat system, because you don’t just send the captured monsters into battle, you transform yourself into your companions.
The game also has a local co-op mode that allows you to explore the open game world together with a friend from the couch.
Likewise, there is something like the Tera crystallization of the newest Pokémon titles Crimson and Crimson. Here’s how you can use “elemental chemistry” to change your monster’s elemental type. On top of that, you can fuse two of your monsters and create a new creature from them.

How did the release go? The start of the indie title seems to have gone quite well so far. Of course, you can’t count on player numbers like a Pokémon game, but the maximum number of players on the release day on Steam was a solid 1,741 active players at the same time (via SteamDB).
On top of that, the first reviews put Cassette Beasts in a good light.
With Palworld, another game is to be released in 2023 that is reminiscent of the gameplay of Pokémon – but it also brings firearms and survival gameplay.
