A new city council that will lead Brantford for the next four years was sworn in on Tuesday at its inaugural meeting.
Mayor Kevin Davis, who begins his second term as head of council, took the oath of office, along with six returning and four new councilors.
First-time councilors are Michael Sullivan in Ward 1, Gino Caputo in Ward 2, Linda Hunt in Ward 4, and Mandy Samwell in Ward 5.
Returning councilors are Rose Sicoli in Ward 1, John Sless in Ward 2, Dan McCreary and Greg Martin in Ward 3, Richard Carpenter in Ward 4, and Brian Van Tilborg in Ward 5.
“Each new member of council – new or returning – comes to council with ideas about how to improve our community,” Mayor Kevin Davis said in his inaugural address, the first delivered in the new city hall council chambers.
“It’s important that we work together to craft a common vision of council’s goals for the next term. We will see a growing city with new opportunities – for employment, possible housing, education, retail, entertainment, transportation and more. We will face challenges, differences and, as in the past, we will adapt, learn and make those opportunities work for our community.”
The next meeting of council will be on Nov. 22 when councilors will be appointed to various city committees.
