World of Warcraft has released a new cinematic. In Threads of Fate we see Xal’atath rallying the Nerubians to their goals.
Blizzard has started releasing new cinematics for the upcoming expansion The War Within for World of Warcraft. The first cinematic revolves around the Nerubians, the primary antagonist in the new add-on. The kingdom of the Nerubians served the Old Gods – and has now rejoined Xal’atath.
What can be seen in the cinematic? The cinematic Threads of Fate shows the kingdom of the Nerubians and how it once served the Old Gods. When an emissary of the Old Gods once again demands the Nerubians’ loyalty to save Ny’alotha from destruction, the queen rebels and kills the emissary to lead the Nerubians on a new path.
But with his last breath, the Nerubians and all descendants of the queen are cursed. Slowly but surely, the Nerubians die and go through various mutations that slowly rob them of their strength and grace.
The queen’s daughter questions her aging mother and her decisions, as they do not seem to have any good consequences for the people.
One day, Xal’atath appears and offers to lead the Nerubians to new strength so they can seize their destiny and conquer the world – for a price. The price is too great and the Queen refuses.
In the next moment, however, she is betrayed and killed by her daughter Ansurek. Xal’atath had also turned to the daughter, who was more susceptible to the harbinger’s words. Xal’atath wants to use the blood of the Old Gods to mutate the Nerubians, making them more powerful than ever before – and thereby have an army under her control.
Is there more to come? Blizzard has not revealed whether this will be the only video in the series. It is quite possible that more cinematics of this kind will be released in the next two weeks – when gamescom 2024 is also coming up. That is also when The War Within will be released. Until then, we’ll just have to wait and see, because this video clearly makes you hungry for more. Or what do you think?
