Some confusion has ruled since Vladimir Putin agreed on a 30 -day limited ceasefire after his conversation with Donald Trump.
Although he must have ordered the military on the same day to take one in mind, the Russian air attacks against Ukraine have continued. In addition, the Kremlin and the US descriptions were differed as to what the presidents agreed.
The Americans said that the agreement applies to “energy and infrastructure”, while the Russians said it only covers “energy infrastructure”.
New calls in Saudi Arabia
Today, Sunday, delegations from Ukraine and the United States meet in Riyadh. And on Monday, a Russian delegation arrives for talks with the Americans.
Keith Kellogg, US special envoy, has said that they will engage in “shooting diplomacy” between the Russians and the Ukrainians.
According to President Zelenskyj, the purpose of the meeting is to sort out “technical issues” regarding the introduction and the expanding of the temporary break that Russia has opened.
On site is Ukraine Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Zeleskyj’s adviser Pavlo Palisa, who both participated in the first meeting with the United States in Saudi Arabia on March 11.
Ukraine, who then agreed to a complete ceasefire, ie one that affects the fighting in the air, at sea and on the ground, has said that the country also agrees with a limited one.
Several Russian requirements
The Russian delegation consists of Grigorij Karasin, an experienced diplomat, and Sergei Beseda, highly placed within the Russian security service FSB.
Steve Witkoff, who is also one of America’s special envoy, has said he expects real steps against a complete ceasefire in the conversations with the Russians.
Russia, which thus has not agreed to a complete ceasefire, has put forward a number of far -reaching requirements for such in what many actors described as a delaying of the peace process.
They want Ukraine to completely cease with the mobilization of soldiers, ending up their defense force and the outside world stops providing the Ukrainians with weapons and intelligence. At the same time, the Russians have not compromised with one of their goals with the invasion so far and have also said that they cannot accept that soldiers from NATO countries are sent to Ukraine for a peacekeeping purpose.
