There has been an oil leak on the propeller unit that was recently installed on Aspö 3. As recently as Monday, there was another fault on the propeller unit on the same ferry.
– We have found a seal that is leaking and are frantically looking for a replacement gasket, says Gustav Karlsson who is district manager at the Swedish Transport Administration.
But when the fault was discovered on the weekend, it is not easy to find spare parts.
– It may happen that there is such a packing in Västra Frölunda, but it is uncertain. So we don’t know when the bug might be fixed.
Largest ferry Yxlan in service
The ferry line’s largest ferry Yxlan has left for scheduled maintenance at the yard, and now the broken ferry Aspö 3 is being replaced with the line’s reserve ferry Aspö 2.
The replacement ferry is the smallest that operates the Aspöleden and takes fewer cars, which causes queues and that some travelers will not be able to get on board.
– Now that it’s the weekend and only passenger cars are going on the ferry, there isn’t that much of a difference in capacity between Aspö 3 and Aspö 2, says Gustav Karlsson.
