New attacks on Ukraine’s energy supply

For two weeks, Russia has focused its robots on electrical installations in the country.
Now there is a risk that it will be like autumn 2022 when Russia knocked out half of Ukraine’s electricity supply.
– It is a way to influence the Ukrainian will to resist, says former lieutenant colonel Jörgen Elfving.

Ukraine’s largest electricity company, DTEK, says 80 percent of its capacity was destroyed in the attacks, and that it could take a year and a half to rebuild the facilities.

– It is a way of influencing the Ukrainian will to resist. If you don’t have access to electricity or heat, then it becomes quite difficult for the civilian population, says former lieutenant colonel Jörgen Elfving.

Last night, President Zelenskyy appealed for more anti-aircraft systems and robots from the West.

– America, Europe, our other partners, everyone knows what we need right now. Everyone knows how important it is right now to help us protect ourselves from these attacks, says Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

In the fall of 2022, Russia knocked out half of Ukraine’s electricity supply, leaving 10 million Ukrainians without power. Without help from the outside world, there is a risk that it will be just as bad this time as well.

– Under the conditions that Russia has access to robots and that the Ukrainian air defense is degraded, then you could end up with the same damage, says Jörgen Elfving.
