New arrests of officials and supporters of the Mali students

On March 13, the Council of Ministers dissolved this important organization of the school and university world. Student leaders now live in hiding. At the start of the week, around ten AEEM students had already been arrested by Mali’s intelligence services.

Of new arrests took place over the last two days. A parent of one of the students arrested this Saturday testified: “ My brother was called on the phone. This allowed him to be located and he was arrested by men dressed in civilian clothes. » Two other students, initially also announced under arrest, now live in hiding. One of them explains: “ We will continue the fight to regain our freedom of action. » Implied: the fight to obtain the lifting of the dissolution of the Association of Pupils and Students of Mali (AEEM).

On March 13, accusing the AEEM of “ violence and clashes in schools and universities », the Malian junta announced its dissolution. In the process, around ten students from the association were arrested. Some of the students called for the rally to celebrate Martyrs’ Day and also to protest against the dissolution of this powerful organization which was at the forefront of the fight in 1991 for the fall of the one-party regime.
