What is The Pharmacist’s Diaries about? The action takes place in a fictional country during the Ming era in China. Maomao is a young girl who earns her living as a pharmacist in the red light district.
One day she is kidnapped by human traffickers who sell her off as a slave to the imperial court. She tries to live a quiet everyday life and not attract attention.
Suddenly the emperor’s two children become ill. Maomao sets out to find the cause and solve the mystery of her illness. Her actions are so well received that she is hired as a maid. In addition, her knowledge as a pharmacist spreads and she receives increasingly bizarre inquiries and orders.
In addition, their actions are followed by a beautiful eunuch, whose beauty drives many ladies crazy. But Maomao doesn’t seem to be interested in the eunuch’s advances, which always leads to funny situations.
What makes The Pharmacist’s Diaries so special? The protagonist Maomao makes the anime so exciting. She is an inconspicuous loner who likes to carry out poisonous experiments on herself, but suddenly has to take on one of the most important tasks at the imperial court.
I liked Maomao’s combination ability. She is a sharp girl, even though she had to grow up in poor circumstances. Thanks to her contacts at the brothel and her knowledge of medicine and herbs, she can cope with any situation at the imperial court.
It’s also exciting to puzzle over what their clients are suffering from. Who is responsible for the mysterious deaths? And why do many of the characters suddenly become so seriously ill? Maomao has been able to solve every puzzle so far and I enjoy watching her do it.
Where can I watch The Pharmacist’s Diaries? The anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll. You can even watch the first three episodes without a subscription. The first season is ongoing, a new episode will be released every week.
There is an option to switch between Japanese and English dubbing. However, this only applies to the first three episodes; all subsequent episodes are only available in the original Japanese language with German subtitles.
