Last year opposition parties such as Amersfoort2014 and the SP were already critical of the cost, which was then estimated at 108 million. They preferred to spend the money on social facilities in the city and argued for renovation and making the current city hall more sustainable. But according to alderman Paffen-Zeenni, that is not a good idea, partly because of the enormous renovation costs for asbestos remediation, disconnecting gas and temporary relocation of civil servants.
