New agreement between FBK and Karlstad municipality underway

Karlstad municipality and Färjestad BK signed a 20-year transfer agreement in 2000. A transfer agreement that regulates access for the municipality in terms of the school’s right to use the halls, but also, for example, public use.

For the first 20 years, the agreement cost approximately SEK 110 million. In 2020, a new agreement was signed which gave Färjestad SEK 39 million. That agreement expires on December 31, 2024, but must be extended or terminated one year before the agreement expires, or it will be automatically extended by five years, indexed.

New agreement for 8.9 million per year

On Tuesday, the municipal board will consider an extra case where the administration proposes a new five-year agreement, where the municipality pays SEK 8.9 million annually to Färjestad, an increase of SEK 1.1 million a year.

SVT Nyheter Värmland has been in contact with the majority of members of the municipal board, and there is an overwhelming majority across party lines for a new agreement with Färjestad.

– Färjestad is a big reason why people come and visit Karlstad, says Linda Larsson (S), chairman of the municipal board.

(V) wants to see more social projects

Parvane Assadbegli (V) has previously been critical of the agreement, but she will not oppose a new agreement either.

– That is a lot of money for a strong club. I will state that the Left Party wants to have a protocol note put in that we want to review what the municipality gets for the money. Färjestad should be able to get more involved in social projects together with the municipality.

Several municipal companies such as Karlstad Airport and Karlstad Energi also sponsor Färjestad.
