(Finance) – Trenitalia (FS Italiane Group) has activated the new one direct rail connection between Agrigento Centrale and Palermo airportwhich includes 4 trips with a travel time of approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
The ribbon cutting of the new connection took place this morning in the Agrigento Centrale station, with the intervention of Renato Schifanipresident of the Sicilian Region, Alessandro Aricòcouncilor for infrastructure and mobility of the Sicilian Region, Maria Annunziata Giaconiaregional business director and intermodal development of Trenitalia, Francesco Miccichèmayor of Agrigento, Gerlando Principalitytransport councilor of the Municipality of Agrigento.
Schifani talked about strategic choice looking to 2025 when Agrigento will be the Italian capital of culture. On the basis of the service contract stipulated between the Sicily Region and Trenitalia they are over 1.6 billion in investments expected until 2026For beyond the 50% paid by the Region. Regarding the new convoysthe investment has a value of over half a billionof which more than 400 million paid by the Sicilian Region.
Councilor Aricò announced that over 40 new trains, among Pop and Bluescurrently in service, another 15 will be added over the next three years.
