New acting Crown attorney in Lambton County

There have been changes atop the Lambton Crown attorney’s office.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of the Attorney General said Nila Mulpuru is now Lambton’s acting Crown attorney. Mulpuru was previously an assistant Crown attorney at the Sarnia-based office.

There is no timeline attached to the acting part of the title, ministry spokesperson Maher Abdurahman said via email.

“As details regarding Crown staffing are internal and confidential, the ministry cannot provide a timeline on staffing positions,” Abdurahman wrote.

David Rows, who has led Lambton’s criminal prosecution team since 2017, is now the acting Crown attorney for Elgin County, Abdurahman said. Both moves are already in place.

Mulpuru is overseeing an office of 16 staff, including eight assistant Crown attorneys and an articling student, according to the ministry’s website.

The ministry previously said it brought in additional regional Crown prosecution support specifically aimed at homicide cases in Lambton County. Twenty first- or second-degree murder charges have been laid in Sarnia-Lambton in less than two years.

Rows took over the Christina Street North office from former acting Crown Fraser Ball in June 2017. Ball had assumed the role two years earlier.

Prior to that, Diane Foster was appointed to the position following the retirement of Don Vale in 2006.
