The issue of faster A-tractors – but only from 16 years of age – is now taking the step towards the finish line, as final negotiations begin between the EU Parliament and EU member states on updated driver’s license rules.
Parliament’s transport committee voted late on Monday with a large majority in favor of starting the negotiations. The package consists, among other things, of rules on what requirements for health checks must be made for different types of driver’s license and what trial periods must apply to new drivers.
For A tractors, an increase in the maximum speed to 45 kilometers per hour and an age limit of 16 years is proposed. Several of the Swedish members have promised to press for keeping a 15-year limit. However, they are expected to find it extremely difficult to get a hearing, as both the EU Parliament and the EU Council of Ministers want an increase.
The goal is to reach a final settlement before the end of the year.
