In the statement made by the Sudanese Army and Rapid Support Forces (HDK), it was stated that the humanitarian ceasefire has been extended for 3 more days from midnight tonight in order to open humanitarian corridors, facilitate the movement of citizens, meet their needs and reach safe places upon regional and international calls.
The military also announced that they have decided to extend the ceasefire for 72 more hours, thanks to the efforts of Saudi Arabia and the United States.
Despite the ceasefire that started on the night of April 28, clashes continued in Sudan between the army and the HDK in different parts of the capital Khartoum.
Both sides accused each other of violating the ceasefire.
FROM THE MILITARY TO HDK CHARGE OF TRANSFORMING THE HOSPITAL TO A MILITARY HEADQUARTERS
The army accused the HDK of turning a hospital, including those in intensive care, into a military headquarters in the city of Şarku Nile, by evacuating it and filling it with ammunition.
Meanwhile, Sudan Civil Aviation Authority announced that the decision to close the airspace, except for humanitarian aid and evacuation flights, has been extended until 13 May.
CONFLICT BETWEEN ARMY AND NGO IN SUDAN
Armed clashes broke out between the Sudanese army and the HDK on the morning of April 15 in the capital of Sudan, Khartoum and other cities.
The disagreement between the army and the HDK regarding the military security reform, which envisages “the full participation of the HDK in the army”, had turned into a hot conflict in the last few months.
Sudan’s Ministry of Health reported that 528 people were killed and 4,599 injured in the clashes that started between the army and the HDK on April 15.
The army and the HDK announced that they decided to extend an additional 72 hours starting from midnight on April 28, with the efforts of Saudi Arabia and the USA. (AA)
