New episodes of the cop series The Rookie will not be released until 2025. As part of the production of season 7, the makers are currently facing a big challengethat real life dictates: pregnancy.
Things will be particularly dicey in the coming season for Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and Bailey (Jenna Dewan), who have to look after their dangerous ex-husband Jason (Steve Kazee). He escaped from prison with Oscar (Matthew Glave) and Monica (Bridget Regan) at the end of season 6 – and eating cherries? Not good for them.

Showrunner Alexi Hawley spoke to TV Insider (via Collider ) about the production of The Rookie season 7:
The stakes are high. There are obviously dangers lurking. On the completely practical side, Jenna is about to have a baby in real life, which we have to deal with at the beginning of the season. I guess we have to take it slow on that one, but yeah, look, especially in the adoption storyline, they’re living a dangerous life. She’s going to have an ex-husband slasher stalker out there. How that’s going to affect her personally will be interesting to explore.
It was already known that Dewan would only be able to take part in the beginning of the 7th season to a limited extent. Now the question is how the production will deal with this. Especially if the three escapees – and especially Jason – are supposed to pose such a great danger to the couple.

Who will be the first to get their hands on the series couple (and what that will look like in light of Dewan’s absence) will have to be revealed at the beginning of the season. Head writer Hawley only revealed this much:
Without spoiling too much, because I don’t know everything at this point, I think Jason is probably the most immediate problem. As for Oscar and Monica, I can’t really comment yet, but obviously Jason is the one with the more specific, violent intentions directed at everyone in the series.
