Frida Karlsson shocked Therese Johaug herself in Holmenkollen.
Now the Norwegian ski queen reveals the truth about the anger at the Swede’s brashness.
“I have never been so angry after a ski race,” writes the 34-year-old in his newly released autobiography “The whole story” according to Norwegian media.
On Friday, the Norwegian ski giant released Therese Johaug his autobiography “The whole story”. The book in which the 34-year-old summarizes his entire successful career with both successes and scandals.
Frida’s race
In addition to the obvious chapters about the four Olympic golds, the 14 World Cup golds and of course the long doping suspension, Johaug also tells about the moment that aroused the most rage in her. It is about Holmenkollen’s three-mile race in 2020 and it is today a classic race for Swedish eyes, but not at all for Norwegian eyes.

Until 2020, no Swede had won the classic three-mile in Holmenkollen and Johaug was clearly the given big favorite to win that year. But then surprised Frida Karlsson ALL and stood for a feat race by sprinting past the Norwegian ski queen on the run.

Johaug’s fury
It was the Swede’s very first World Cup victory in his career and the joy was enormous at the finish line. But for Johaug it became night black and a fury bubbled up inside her.
Because when Frida chose to change skis during the race, it would turn out to be a stroke of genius. While Therese stuck on with the same skis for three miles, her slip got worse and worse with every kilometer, which opened the door for the Swede’s giant bravado in the race when she silenced the Norwegian audience on the spot.

“Still angry”
Johaug reveals in the book that the Norwegian steeplechase team told her that there was no need to change skis during the race. It would only mean lost seconds and no better glide at all.
“What in the world happened? I didn’t feel tired,” writes a very annoyed Johaug, who was overtaken at the end, according to Norwegian media.

The Norwegian was furious with her gelding team after the race and admits her anger reached a whole new level.
“I have never been so angry after a ski race,” writes the 34-year-old in the book Hela histrien.
“Being beaten by Frida Karlsson on my home court because the gang around me was sleeping was simply not acceptable. I was angry for months afterwards. It’s almost embarrassing to admit, but I still get angry when I think about it. Someone might call me short-tempered.”
Therese Johaug then got a big revenge when the three mile in Holmenkollen was decided the next time. Then the Norwegian won by far and it was only the day after she announced that her skiing career is officially over.
“For the first time in my career, I didn’t feel like crossing the finish line. The cheers from the crowd increased. With five meters to go, I turned to the sea of people and bowed. I wanted this moment to last forever,” writes Johaug about the perfect end to his career.
