The previous commander of the Israeli Armed Forces Herzi Halevi resigned last week.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Nethanjahu appointed on Saturday Major General Eyal Zamir as commander of the country’s armed forces.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Netanyahu and the country’s Defense Minister Israel katz agreed to appoint Zamir on Saturday night.
The previous commander of Israel Armed Forces Herzi Halevi resigned last week from his job. Lieutenant General Halevi said in his letter of resignation that he would take responsibility for failures that allowed Hamas a surprise attack in October 2023.
Halevi announced a couple of days after the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza began. The Israeli and Hamas ceasefire agreement was signed early in the year and its first phase came into force on January 19th.
Halev’s difference will take effect on March 6.
