She has already proven in Stranger Things and the two Enola Holmes films that Netflix star Millie Bobby Brown can defend herself and not be taken for a fool. Now she takes up the sword to star in a fantasy film Damsel to show that princesses don’t always have to be the eponymous damsel in distress.
That’s what Netflix’s new fantasy adventure Damsel is about
According to Netflix’s epic fantasy trailer, Damsel takes us to a fairytale land: Here the noble daughter Elodie (Millie Bobby Brown) unexpectedly receives the offer to marry Prince Henry (Nick Robinson) and thus become a princess. Even if this is not exactly the down-to-earth young woman’s greatest wish, she agrees for the benefit of her happy family and her impoverished subjects.
Queen Isabelle (Robin Wright) welcomes Elodie as a daughter-in-law with open arms. But during the marriage ceremony, the chosen one experiences a nasty surprise: Apparently she only became a princess only to be sacrificed to the dragon, in whose debt the royal family is. But if they think Elodie will let herself be roasted without a fight, they’ve got the wrong bride.

More on the subject of film:
Netflix’s Damsel is more survival than fairytale
Damsel is one thing above all: a survival adventure. Without any fuss, Millie Bobby Brown spends a large part of the 1 hour and 48 minute running time trying to evade the bloodthirsty dragon using various tricks and tricks. Of course, there is also a background story that needs to be discovered in the dark cave passages. But despite all the fairy tale clichés turned on their head, the focus of Damsel is on the action, which increasingly turns Elodie’s elegant princess dress into a torn mop.
Netflix
Damsel: Elodie & Henry dare
Millie Bobby Brown grew up with Netflix. The in-house streaming star performs confidently in Damsel Balancing act between beautiful bride and defensive fighter. Damsel will certainly not go down in history as the most imaginative fantasy film, but as an entertaining adventure it gives us an enjoyable evening.
The biggest Downer When you look at it, you’re left with the impression that Damsel would have been better enjoyed without any prior knowledge. Because without the twist of the dragon sacrifice, which was already trumpeted on Netflix’s homepage in the one-sentence description of the film, the quite likeable prince or the previously scattered eerie hints of something more would have worked much better.
