Netflix secures live-action adaptation of one of the best anime of the year even though it’s only just launched

Netflix secures live action adaptation of one of the best anime

The live-action series One Piece starts on Netflix in August. Eiichirō Oda’s original manga and its anime adaptation have been inspiring audiences for over 20 years. The expectations (and fears) of many fans are correspondingly high. Netflix doesn’t waste that much time on another anime.

With Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead, the anime adaptation of the manga of the same name by Hario Aso just started in Germany on Crunchyroll on July 9th. In The live-action film version will be released in 3 weeks at Netflix. Read here why anticipation is the order of the day.

Anime adaptation on Netflix: With Karacho into the zombie apocalypse

Japanese horror comedy Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead takes an interesting approach to the zombie genre. In series like The Walking Dead or The Last of Us, life in the zombie apocalypse is destined for the main characters of cruelty and violence. For the hero of this anime adaptation is the downfall of mankind the best thing that ever happened to him.

Here you can watch the trailer for Netflix’ zombie spectacle:

The story of Zom 100 follows a young man named Akira who finds himself completely exploited in his job at an advertising company. He works to the point of complete exhaustion and actually only wishes for death so as not to have to come back to the office the next day. Akira staggers through life like a zombie – until real zombies suddenly attack the city.

Surrounded by hordes of voracious undead, Akira flips a switch: finally no more work! In the midst of the apocalypse, he has his first chance to really live. Unfortunately, he realizes that his days are numbered and sooner or later he will be bitten or eaten by a zombie himself. And so Akira creates one List of 100 things he still wants to experience before he dies.

The trailer for Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead is already in a good mood. Could we actually expect a good live-action anime adaptation here? The chances are good. Not only the manga enjoys great popularity. The freshly launched anime template is also convincing from the first episode as one of the biggest anime surprises of the year.

Zom 100 is already one of the best anime novelties of 2023 after episode 1

Before the zombie movie hits Netflix on August 3rd, you can take a look at the anime template now at Crunchyroll. The first of a total of 12 episodes started there on July 9th. It’s worth it: Rarely does an anime deliver such a strong pilot episode.

Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead

Visually, Zom 100 is absolutely convincing. With different image formats and colors as well as virtuoso camera angles, the series creatively captures Akira’s reality. With socially critical harshness, episode 1 first brings us close to the horror of job exploitation. Akira’s increasing depression causes the images to become more and more dreary and colorless from scene to scene.

The big break finally follows with the outbreak of the zombie apocalypse. As soon as Akira encounters the voracious undead for the first time, his world suddenly in bright and rich colors – even the blood splattered by the zombies glows in all colors on the screen. For Akira, lethargy now gives way to a new zest for life, which is emphasized by a radical change in the narrative tempo.

In a matter of seconds, Zom 100 goes from grueling drama to one addicting horror fun with fantastic animations. We’ll find out in just a few weeks on Netflix whether the live-action film will succeed in this feat. Interesting: At the start date of the Netflix adaptation, not even half of the first anime season was released.
