Netflix saves cult comic adaptation of Deadpool creators

The Goon has had a remarkable history of failure. The filming of comic book of the same name penned by Eric Powell has been haunting Hollywood for 14 years. David Fincher was the first big name interested in adapting it. In 2008 he secured the rights to the material.

An animated film starring Paul Giamatti was planned. In the end, the project never materialized in this form and ended up in the hands of Deadpool director Tim Miller. However, a look at Miller’s filmography reveals: The film version of The Goon is far from within reach. Now comes the third attempt.

The Goon: Netflix takes over failed David Fincher film

As reported by Slashfilm, Miller gave a brief update on The Goon at Comic-Con in San Diego. The project is not dead yet, but it has changed again. According to the latest state of affairs, the Film adaptation of The Goon for Netflix and has found a new director in Patrick Osborne.

Osborne last provided with the Love, Death & Robots episode Robots: Exit Strategies cause a stir. The animated anthology series is produced by Fincher and Miller and published on Netflix. He also directed the Disney short film The Way Through Your Stomach, which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film and opened before Baymax. Miller will remain on the film as producer.

The Goon tells the story of a thug who is up to mischief in a run-down town together with his sidekick Frank. Actually he works as Debt collector for Mafioso Labrazio. What nobody knows: he has long since killed his client. But then zombies suddenly appear in front of the door.
